Dr. Avanti’s Almond Butter Oatmeal

A bird's eye view photo of a bowl of uncooked oatmeal with almonds and dried fruit

Oatmeal is an easy breakfast to make when you’re in a hurry.  By adding almond butter, you not only get added fiber and flavor, you also get protein and healthy fats to fuel you all morning. This is my go-to breakfast a few times a week—especially right now when it’s below zero temperatures in Chicago. According to Ayurveda, the qualities of oats are sweet, warm, heavy and moist.  Thus they counter-balance symptoms caused by increased air/space (Vata) and symptoms caused by increased fire/water (Pitta).

Ready in 10 minutes or less

Ingredients

  • ½ cup quick cook oats (or steel cut)

  • 1 cup water

  • 2 tablespoons almond butter

Preparation

  1. Place all the ingredients in a pot and simmer until cooked.

  2. Add almond butter and stir until well-mixed.

Enjoy & be well.
