Enjoy Summer Picnics with DIY Ayurvedic Balance Bowls

A bowl of summery grains and veggies garnished with fresh herbs and cherry tomatoes.

One of my favorite things in the summer is to picnic with family and friends at an outdoor concert. These DIY Ayurvedic Balance Bowls are my “go-to” because they accommodate everyone’s food preferences and tastes. And if you want to upgrade your whole picnic experience with the wisdom of Ayurveda, try my 4 Tips for An Ayurvedic Picnic.

Ingredients

  • Choice of Quinoa or Rice

  • Summer Squash

  • Spinach

  • Corn

  • Avocado

  • Summer Radish

  • Cucumber

  • Salt & Pepper

  • Lime

These are my favorites but swap them for your favorite vegetables.

Preparation

  1. Cook your grain (quinoa or rice).

  2. Cook up a few different summer veggies separately in simple spices like salt and pepper…my favorites are summer squash, spinach, and corn.

  3. Slice up some avocado, and add a squeeze of lime to prevent browning.

  4. Thinly grate summer radishes and cucumber–I use a peeler to get beautiful ribbons.

  5. Make a nice dressing or sauce–nothing too spicy, salty, or sour, as those tastes add heat instead of cooling down.

  6. Pack ingredients separately and let everyone create their DIY bowls, filled with a balance of grains, cooked veggies, healthy fats, and raw garnish.
